The rally was set to march to the USyd Gaza solidarity encampment, however, protesters were forced to alter their route due to threats of campus bans.

In a statement to Honi on Monday, a University spokesperson declared that “political messaging has been removed from Graffiti Tunnel for a number of years, irrespective of the content; recently that has involved both pro-Israel and Pro-Palestine graffiti.”
Darwish, born in 1941, lived during the frictions of the Palestinian struggle through the Nakba, and subsequent displacement, war and political exile. Through it all, Darwish possessed a formidable talent to not only preserve but bellow the voice of Palestine through language.
Following further management interference at their encampment, Students 4 Palestine organised a snap rally, attended by students and members of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU).
On Saturday May 11, an emergency rally centring around divestment was held at the USyd quad lawns, where the encampment has remained for the past 19 days. The Quad lawns are expected to fill up tomorrow as protestors march from Belmore Park to the USyd encampment.
Besides a few attempts by Zionist supporters to verbally intimidate, there was no escalation. The encampment chanted non-stop until Zionist protestors voluntarily left university grounds soon after.
Demonstrators marched to Hyde Park, posters and signs in hand, chanting for an end to violence committed by men, including sexual violence.
It was broadly noted that the campus security has been friendly, but that there is a feeling that the university will want them to be moved on by the end of the week. Questions loom over graduations which begin next Wednesday, and how that will affect the camp’s continuation.
The art-making followed a small rally organised by Students For Palestine in front of the Quadrangle. Together, these two events christened the encampment occurring on Tuesday night in solidarity with the student protesters of Columbia University, who are facing police arrests en masse at their sit-ins.
