Today, The University of Sydney has announced the appointment of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Leadership), Professor Lucy Marshall who is set to join the University in February of next year.
The announcement was made through email in a letter sent by Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Annamarie Jagose.
In response to her appointment, Professor Marshall said “I believe an institution’s culture underpins success, and I’m excited by the opportunity to shape a new role focused on instilling a high-trust, high-performance culture across the University”.
The Professor has previously held the title of inaugural Associate Dean (Equity and Diversity), the Associate Dean of Research and other academic positions at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
The DVC (Community and Leadership) appears to be a new Senior Leadership position with the University espousing an “internationally competitive search”.
In a statement attributed to a University of Sydney spokesperson the new position “has been established to improve how we set the strategic direction for our culture, diversity, equity & inclusion (DE&I) and leadership initiatives.”
According to the spokesperson, this position is a non-teaching role and is a part of the University’s 2032 strategy.
Professor Marshall received her Engineering (Honours) and eventual PHd at UNSW before going to the United States of America as an Associate Professor of Watershed Analysis at Montana State University. Marshall also has held leadership positions at the University of Macquarie in the Faculty of Science.
The change in leadership comes timed with the release of the University Senate’s response to the Hodgkinson’s Report.
