I’ll keep this review short and simple, just like all the men that were referenced in tonight’s sexual escapade. Jess Fuchs’ Sex Jokes For Women is witty and aware, taking shape around the audience of the intimate Enmore Whipbird Wine Bar. The set was interactive, and Fuchs was mostly successful in keeping strong pacing between moments with the crowd. She is a quick-thinker with good comic timing.
The show felt very casual. That could be because it started at 5:30pm — as Fuchs say “5:30pm is a very unsexy time” — or because of Fuchs’ charming, candid tone. The hour-long show felt like a drunken night on a girls’ trip; unfiltered, unrelenting, and slightly uncomfortable in the best way.
She addresses the stereotype that ‘female comedians only ever talk about sex’ with a big old fuck you, telling the audience “comedy is anecdotal. Maybe if men were better at sex, we’d have less to make fun of”.
Sex Jokes For Women never tried to thrust deeper meaning into the crowd, it was just an hour of laughter and good fun, Fuchs weaponising her skill for wordplay to engage us even at the unsexy hour of 5:30pm.
Jess Fuchs’ will be returning to Sydney with Sex Jokes For Women in late July!
