With USyd approving just 117 travel concession applications under Transport NSW’s exemptions for disabled part-time students between 2019 – 2023, concerns are being raised over NSW universities’ opaque guidance on accessing the concessions.

On Friday 19 April, the Disabilities Community Room was officially opened by the Disabilities Collective (DisCo) in an event with representatives from the University of Sydney Union (USU), Sydney University Postgraduate Students’ Association (SUPRA), and DisCo members.
In a joint statement through the Australian Tertiary Education Network on Disability (ATEND), ten advocacy and representative groups requested an “immediate retraction of ableist language used in the Accord and a recalculation of the target participation rate for people with disability to be inclusive of all people.”
“The choice shouldn’t be between education and not being able to come to a tutorial because you can’t enter the bloody building.”
