Students and staff from the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, and the University of New South Wales staged protests on Wednesday against the presence of Israeli Defence Force reservists on their campuses.
As of publication, the scholarship webpage has been restored and the dates for the scholarship labelled as “TBC”, with a note that the scholarship will not be awarded in 2025.
On Tuesday night, University management had sent a letter to the protest organisers warning that the “posters may indicate an intention for Students Against War to conduct a demonstration on University lands, contrary to the Campus Access Policy”.
In a statement to Honi Soit, a University spokesperson confirmed that “two of our security officers incorrectly advised some students against handing out pamphlets on campus,”
Wednesday April 24 saw a schedule of rallies, speak outs, and teach-ins. However, questions hang over its survival with the planned ANZAC Day dawn service tomorrow morning.
At the rally, S.A.W. member Jacob Starling, a participant of the sit-in, announced to the crowd “This campus supports Palestine. The student body supports Palestine. There is no room for apartheid on this campus.”
