The Law School should ultimately evaluate whether this current assessment format, which has been utilised over a long period of time, really equips students the best to become effective modern lawyers.

The current executive should be taking more risks and consider the full range of ideas that were contested in this year’s election, even more radical ones that are traditionally outside of the USU’s scope.
The government’s plan puts universities in a dangerous bind. On the one hand, Liberal and Labor governments have slashed direct funding to the tertiary sector, which forced universities to rely on other revenue sources. On the other hand, they are now targeting the money universities have learned to rely on.
In the best interests of students, the Business School is being increasingly pressured to re-consider the four mandatory subjects, culling BUSS1000 and 2000 whilst only making BUSS1020 and 1030 mandatory for students undertaking Accounting, Finance, and Banking majors.
Students do have a large range of faculties to choose from, however the desire of the university to offer such a large range of OLEs makes the difference between an OLE and an elective increasingly unclear.
Not only do these students often miss out on the benefits of a more well-rounded comprehensive education but the streamlining of our schooling based on intelligence at a young age exacerbates the inequality and disadvantage of educational outcomes for students from a lower socio-economic background.
