In relation to the CAP Constable stated that “there are 44,000 student [USU] members who encompass a broad range of views.” He went on to say that the CAP “deals with difficult matters”, but that the Board’s role should be in “making students feel safe and maintaining free speech.”

Hundreds of students, academics, workers and community members gathered this morning at the University of Melbourne’s (UniMelb) Parkville campus to rally against management’s misconduct charges.
The motion, presented by the Labour Unity-aligned election ticket Revive on the July Council meeting’s agenda, proposes that “Arc moves SRC elections to flex-week, to promote higher engagement with student elections.”
The University of Sydney’s Student Representative Council (SRC) has joined the Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) to launch a campaign aimed at reinstating institutional email accounts for alumni.
The primary motion was the backing of a Student General Meeting (SGM) to demand the University disclose and divest all ties to Israel. Deaglan Godwin (SAlt) moved the motion noting that the recent SGM at the University of Queensland was the largest campus action supporting Palestine in Australia.
Bryson Constable (Liberal), Ben Hines (Libdependent), Julia Lim (Independent), and Grace Wallman (Switchroots) were elected as the new executive.
Friday afternoon saw the University of Sydney Union (USU) board and executive complete their fifth meeting of the year in the Holme Building.
Following an initial meeting between the two parties on Friday last week, University management has pledged to “initiate a representative working group to investigate our research engagements and return recommendations to the University Senate by the end of this year.”
Since its inception four weeks ago, the encampment has demanded that University management “meet with us and answer our demands”, but not “behind closed doors” or through “secret negotiations.” Last Friday, protestors’ attempts to stage a ‘town hall meeting’ was ignored by University management and transformed into a public forum by guest speakers. At the time of writing, a petition launched by the encampment to hold a Student General Meeting with management is also 150 signatures away from meeting the 2,000 signature threshold.
